No. Everyone who plays or takes part in sport and is keen to improve or competes against others would benefit from sports psychology. Elite and professional sportsmen and sportswomen often use sports psychologists because they need to perform well to earn a living.
No. Many techniques can be tailored for the young and old. You may be the parent of a child and can see that they get frustrated or upset when they struggle to perform at their best. Sometimes a sports psychogist can help a young athlete find the reason they started to play the sport originally and can help to build up their confidence and motivation.
This depends on what you put it to it. If you are keen and work together with the sports psychologist then a few sessions could have a major impact on your performance. You could learn skills that you can use in all areas of your life, not just sport.
Yes. Although I am a trainee sport and exercise psychologist I have a masters degree in psychology and a masters degree in sport and exercise psychology. I also have a wealth of experience in sports coaching. It takes a long time to qualify as a chartered sports and exercise psychologist and part of the training is to undertake work with athletes whilst under the supervision of an experienced psychologist. My supervisor is Dr Brian Hemmings and he is a chartered sport and exercise psychologist. To complete my training I have to journal and log the hours I spend working.
If you have any concerns over the way that I practice then you can get in contact with my supervisor. My supervisor is Dr Brian Hemmings and he can be contacted on brian@bjhconsulting.co.uk
This will vary depending on the work and the requirements of the athlete. If the athlete or player is local to my base in Northampton then we can meet up face to face at my office or at training. Alternatively I am happy to conduct sessions online using Zoom.
This will depend on the requirements of the athlete. We may explore how you feel about your sport and why you think the way you do or we may come up with creative ideas to help you to follow a routine so that you can keep focused during your sport. I may observe you playing your sport or I may even give you a form to fill in to examine your levels of confidence or anxiety. No session is the same as we are all individuals.
The first step is to use the contact page to get in touch with me. We can then arrange to have a quick chat about your needs and requirements and how I might be able to help you. After this I can give you an idea of what kind of help I can offer and how much it will cost. We can then start to work together and you can start to fulfil your sporting potential.
